Bruce Douglas Memorial Scholarship
Each year we sponsor a child to train at no cost
in the memory of my first trainer & father,
the late Bruce Douglas (1939 -1989).
As an ammature fighter, Bruce fought in the first televised boxing bout in Australia against Graham Ingamells. He was the original trainer & founder of the Chelsea & District Boxing Club, establihed in 1968. Turning out many great ammature fighters including Victorian Champion, Brian Barlow. Working alongside the late Frank Kenny, the Boxing club gained immediate success and was well respected within the boxing community. In 1977 Bruce turned to the Professional Boxing scene as a referee & judge at senior level, then was appointed as the National Secretary of the Australian Boxing Federation. Working alongside the greats of the era with Gus Mercurio, Barry Michael, Tony Mundine, Brian Everad, Paul Ferrari, Ron Casey, Charlie Sheppard, Malcome Bulner & more. After many years dedicated to the sport, he returned to his first love of horses & become a successful owner / trainer of thoroughbreds.
